Rest in Jesus’ Love and Peace

16th June 2025

Topic:
Rest in Jesus’ Love and Peace

Intro:
Sometimes we worry about many things, don’t we? Come aside with Jesus today and let Him bring you His peace, encouragement and hope.

Opening Prayer:

Thank you Father for the beautiful sunrise this morning. The promise of a new day with you.

Your mercies are new every morning, great is your faithfulness.

Lord, I sense your encouragement and strengthening today.

Thank you Holy Spirit for being with me in all I do.

Amen.

Bible verse –

“One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.””
‭‭Mark‬ ‭12‬:‭28‬-‭31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Reflection –

The greatest commandment is such an encouragement and such a challenge isn’t it. An encouragement because God clearly shows us what he wants us to do. A challenge because it means every part of our being, our heart, soul, mind and strength, is for Him and for His cause.

Loving Jesus does mean surrendering each area of ourselves to him. What do you need to surrender today?

How’s your heart? Filled with his love?

How’s your soul? Resting in him?

How’s your mind? At peace or troubled?

How’s your strength? Exhausted or refreshed?

Take action in whatever area Jesus challenges you because this is such an essential part of our calling.

We all love God. Or we wouldn’t be doing what we’re doing as Pastors for him. Yet he loves us too remember. And he’s there strengthening and guiding us. Guiding us how to live and how to love those around us, our neighbours.

Let this passage be a true north for you. Like a compass point. For a week I’m enjoying a holiday with my wife by the beach. We’re privileged to stay in an older unit, but directly across from the beach. I can hear the sea from our lounge room. It’s so refreshing.

We face true north. It reminds me to keep clear the compass point of my calling in following Jesus.

Where do you rest, renew and refresh? When did you last take a holiday or even a day to spend with your spouse?

Maybe it’s time.

Prayer –
Jesus you modelled for us many times to come aside and spend time with your Father in prayer, listening and sharing with him. Help me to follow your example Lord. Let me listen to you Holy Spirit. Let me allow you to guide me to change the things you call me to change and to live and love afresh for you Lord.

Thank you Jesus that you love me so much. I love you too Jesus. Help me to live out that love to all those around me, starting with my spouse and my family.

Amen.
