Overcoming
Intro:
Temptation abounds all around us. But resisting temptation is possible with the help of the Holy Spirit. God always gives us a way out. He never tempts us. He strengthens us to overcome the Evil One. Let’s reflect on these things today.
Opening Prayer:
You’re an amazing God that we can trust and rely upon, Lord. Thank you for being there for us. Thank you that you never tempt us. You lead us away from temptation. And you strengthen us to say no to the enemy, the evil one who seeks to trap and ensnare us. Help us Lord. Be the one, Holy Spirit, who overcomes and helps us to overcome each and every temptation as it comes.
Bible Verse:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
Your’s is the Kingdom, the power and glory.
Forever and ever. Amen
(Matthew 6:9-13 NIV/ NLT)
Reflection:
What an amazing God we serve.
Even though temptation abounds, He always gives us a way out.
What is it that you need to ask Him for help to overcome today?
You don’t need me to start listing all the temptations around you. They will be specific to your environment, your culture and your background. Yet they will also be specific to your personality and your weaknesses. The enemy attacks us like that.
To overcome, we choose the Lord each day, each moment and in each decision asking the help of the Holy Spirit. We then create a pattern of overcoming. This is our hope and our help to overcome temptation
Prayer:
Thank you Holy Spirit for helping us to overcome temptation each day in each moment. Where we have fallen to temptation, please forgive us Lord. And strengthen us to get up again and go step by step again forward into the purpose you call us to. Thank you Jesus. I trust and rely upon you. I choose you because you first choose me.
Amen
