A new day dawns

21st April 2025

Intro: Easter to me is all about Jesus. It’s through Him that we have new life and new beginnings. His sacrifice frees you and I from our sin. His resurrection invites us to live with Him for eternity. Eternity begins now, on earth, as we give thanks for His death, burial, resurrection and ascension. Just prior to His ascension He speaks to us…as we move into a time of prayer, let’s see what He says for us to do. Just before He returns to sit at the right hand of His Father. His Father who gave the life of His One and Only Son for you and I.

Opening Prayer:
As a new day dawns, thank you for strength for this day, Lord God. Thank you mighty God that you give me all I need for today. I praise you because of your love for me, your hand upon my life and love for our world. Thank you, loving God.
Amen.

Bible verse – Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT)
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the end of the age.”

Reflection Point – What a challenging passage. This is what Jesus commands us to do. Just prior to returning to sit at the right hand of His Father.Imagine for a moment, you were given all authority and power. What would you do? Well, my guess is that it isn’t what Jesus did. Isn’t he amazing? He turns our world upside down.
Instead of Jesus stepping in with all the authority and power he has, he sends us; you and me. He commissions us to go, and in our going, to make disciples. The Greek thought is that in all we’re doing, whether at work, sport, rest or at a cafe, wherever we are, we’re to be making disciples.

But not just any disciples, ones from all ethnos, from every people group, that’s what all nations means. Not just every nation state, but every people group.

Our response – but that’s impossible! Exactly. That’s why we need the help of the Holy Spirit to fulfil the Great Commission.

What part are you playing? How are you involved? What can you begin to do today towards fulfilling the Great Commission?

Prayer – Our loving God, thank you that you have challenged us to fulfil your call. Help me, mighty God to step in to what you are calling me to today without fear or hesitation.

Help me to know that your Holy Spirit rests upon me to empower me to fulfil my part towards your Great Commission.

I love you Jesus. Fill my heart with your love for our world, outside my window, outside in my neighbourhood, in my Region, nation and the nations across the world.

Lead me into a wonderful celebration for who you are all all you have done for me, Dear Lord. And take me to that precious place, again, of deep and complete surrender to you.

Amen
