Give us today

1st December 2025

Intro:

Financial provision is one of the most common prayers, no doubt. That’s why God has so many verses on finances in the Bible. Have a search for them sometime and see all He says about providing for us.

Opening Prayer:

Lord God Almighty, thank you that you are both a mighty God and a loving God. Thank you that you always give us all our needs according to your riches in Christ Jesus. Help me to trust you for provision for whatever you call me to do knowing that you have the riches to be able to provide. In fact, you’re the greatest venture capitalist of all because you invest in us, Lord. And your return is changed lives. Help me to be one who trusts you with my finances no matter what.

Bible Verse:

…Give us today our daily bread…

Matthew 6:11 (NIV)

Reflection:

Already in our prayer and introduction today we see that provision from the Lord is about trust. It’s also about asking. The Lord taught His disciples to ask…him.

I think of the famous missionary who fed rooms full of orphans simply through prayer. A common story was when he would sit the orphans down for dinner when there was no food in the house and pray. By the time the prayer was finished there would be a knock on the door and there would be enough food to feed everyone.

Truly asking God to give us our daily bread, our daily needs, is something He invites us and teaches us to do.

I’m going to do this more.

Daily asking God to give me my daily bread. I’m praying for a situation now for a daily need.

How about you?

And in community, like the disciples, praying together as churches and faith communities…”Give us today our daily bread”. Jesus invites you to pray this prayer as a church and faith community too.

Prayer:

Thank you Lord that I can come to you Jesus in faith knowing that as I ask and often even before I ask, you provide me with my daily needs. I trust you Lord. Even as I have seen provision in the past, I know there will be in the present and the future.
