“The Spirit of the Lord is on me”
Intro:
These bible verses today are three of those which resonate so strongly in my heart. Maybe take a moment to reflect upon what verses immediately come to mind when you begin praying and listening to the Lord.
Opening Prayer:
Lord, send your Spirit upon us that we may be anointed to serve you in the way that you have called us. Let us hear your Word alive to each of us today. Jesus, help me hear what you said so long ago when you stood up in the synagogue. But which echoes through time to ring loudly to my heart today.
Amen.
Bible Verse:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him.
(Luke 4:18-20 NIV)
Reflection:
It’s so exciting when we sense the Spirit of God coming upon us isn’t it?
Our emotions become filled to overflowing. Our hearts are captured in a deeply absorbing way. Sometimes we’re so overwhelmed that tears begin or precious moments are shared with the Lord. And this is so special for each of us.
Yet this verse tells us truly why He has anointed us.
To proclaim good news to the poor…poor in spirit and poor practically.
He wants us to set the captive free, seeing a demonstration of His love and power in breaking into our world.
Now that’s something so precious and deeply absorbing and such a privilege to participate in.
Take a moment now to ask Him where He wants you to demonstrate His love and power this week.
Prayer:
Thank you God that you have chosen to partner with me. To choose me to be part of your family demonstrating your love and power to those around me, in Melbourne where I live, and yet also far and wide wherever I go. Help me Lord to carry this into the next week living it out that others may feel and see your love and grace, powerfully.
Amen
